Adopt a Library
If you can learn to read, you can learn to do anything. In many parts of the developing world, small community libraries are the only places where children and adults living in remote areas can find books and information.
You can get involved by adopting a library. Rally together your family, friends or colleagues and provide an entire community with a place to learn for about $150 a month. Your contribution covers the cost of library furniture, shelves full of books and professional skill training for library staff.
Adopting a library is easy – just choose an unadopted library and give us a call or send us an email. We’ll put your name on our site, and your friends, family or colleagues can support your library securely online. The more support you rally, the taller your library’s book stack grows. We’ll also send you updates from the field so you can learn about how your support is making a difference.
Needs vary from country to country. All donations to the Adopt a Library program will be used for the library identified. In the case of surplus, CODE will direct funds where the need is greatest.

Malawi, Thvolo
Aviv Fried bakes and sells bread to raise money for the Chitenga F.P School library in Malawi.
The Chitenga School’s library, located in the Nsanje District of Malawi, was established with CODE funds in 2007. Money raised through Aviv's bread sales gives the school’s 1,451 students access to appropriate reading materials in English and locally spoken languages, library furnishings, and professional support for the school’s ten teachers to teach reading using the library resources.
CODE thanks Aviv Fried for his creativity, enthusiasm and support.
