Celebrating 50 Years

CELEBRATING 50 YEARS - AN EVENING WITH ANTON KUERTI

Representatives from across Africa and the Caribbean joined world-famous classical pianist Anton Kuerti and hundreds of CODE supporters to celebrate our 50th anniversary  in Ottawa on June 12, 2009.

During the event, CODE’s Directors Award for Literacy Promotion was awarded to Colin McNairn for his long commitment to CODE’s work in empowering children around the world to learn.

CODE also recognized the Canadian International Development Agency for its support over the years. The honour was accepted, on behalf of the Government of Canada, by Mr. Hau Sing Tse, Senior Vice President of CIDA.

The evening concluded with a private concert by internationally famed musician Anton Kuerti.

CODE began in 1959 as an overseas book sending operation. Today CODE works with partner organizations across Africa and the Caribbean to improve the quality of education by supporting the entire culture of literacy – from authors and publishers, through to libraries and teachers, through to readers themselves.
