CODE and its overseas partners are pleased to support the 6th Pan African Reading for All Conference, to be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in August 2009.
The Pan African Reading for All Conference takes place every two years and represents the largest and most prestigious international literacy conference in Africa. The week long conference provides a great opportunity for a network of professionals, including teachers, researchers, publishers, policy makers, writers and others, from Africa and beyond, to get together to share best practice in the fields of literacy, education, and the development of literate environments.
During the conference, a special event will be held to announce the Tanzanian winners of the newly launched Burt Award for African Literature, and annual award created by CODE through the generous support of lon-time CODE supporter Mr.Bill Burt. The conference theme is “Literacy for Community Based Socio-Economic Transformation and Development” and the conference is expected to draw over 400 professionals. It will also coincide with the Tanzanian National Book Fair, a trade show and week-long book festival.
One of the key coordinating agencies of the Pan-African Conference is CODE’s partner organization in Tanzania, the Children’s Book Project, along with the International Reading Association’s International Development Committee in Africa (IRC/DAC) and the National Reading Association in Tanzania (CCHAUTA).
