At the invitation of the Tanzania High Commission to Canada, CODE organised a day of activities in Toronto for Mrs. Regina Lowassa, wife of the Prime Minister of The United Republic of Tanzania, during her November 30, 2006 visit to Canada. The activities included a visit to Fern Avenue Public School and followed by a luncheon hosted by the law firm Borden Ladner & Gervais and sponsored by Scotia Bank.
Speaking at the event attended by CODE supporters and staff, Mrs. Lowassa commended the organization on the outstanding contribution to children's literacy programs in Tanzania. Mrs. Lowassa was especially impressed with CODE's focus on educating young girls. She encouraged CODE to continue supporting the Tanzanian government in its efforts to boost literacy rates.
