In July, an enthusiastic team of CODE supporters from British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario will tackle the rugged, snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak. Their aim: to raise funds and awareness for children's literacy programs in Tanzania.
Led by Chris Bredt, chair of CODE's Board, they will set off on the 11-day climb July 3. The team will follow this adventure with a six-day safari to a wildlife park, and then visit the schools in Tanzania's capital,
Each climber is paying his or her own way and in addition each has pledged to raise $5,000 for CODE.
CODE will assign each climber an electronic webpage describing a school in Tanzania that needs help; sponsors will be able to donate online. Donations to the Summit of Literacy Climb will provide locally-published books for libraries, train local tutors to teach reading and library management skills, and provide training in the creation of teaching aids.
For more information about joining Chris on the climb or sponsoring a climber, please contact codehq@codecan.org or go directly to the website.
