Located 226km from Bamako off route RN7 (Route Nationale 7), Tabacoro is a rural village in the Koumantou district, administrative division of Bougouni (Sikasso region). Tabacoro is home to the school and community library named after the late Abdoulaye Maiga, former Director of the Centre d’Animation Pédagogique de Koumantou (Koumantou’s Pedagogical Support Center). The library is the fruit of a partnership between five villages (Tabacoro, Banko-Zanfina, Kokouna, Boumou and Guérékélé), the Centre d'Animation Pédagogique (Pedagogical Support Center), the Agence Nationale d’Investissement des Collectivités Territoriales (ANICT, a national investment agency for territorial communities) and the Association pour la lecture, l'éducation et le développement (ALED, an organization for the promotion of reading, education and development and a partner of CODE). The school in Tabacoro was created in 1996 and has a student body of 667 students.
