The CODE 2011 Read Africa Ball Brings Literacy Supporters Together to Make a Difference
Literacy supporters came out in great numbers for an unforgettable evening of entertainment on November 25th, as CODE held its second Read Africa Ball at the Rosehill Lounge in Toronto.
This unique event was hosted by Entertainment Tonight Canada’s Rosey Edeh and sponsored by Barrick Gold Corporation. Partygoers enjoyed delightful food and drinks and danced to the African sounds of Master Drummer Amadou Kienou and the Resolutionaries Marimba Band, in addition to taking part in a silent auction and raffle (sponsored by Uniglobe Travel), all with the goal of raising funds for CODE’s literacy work in developing countries.
“In a word, the Read Africa Ball was uplifting! The night was filled with amazing music from Africa and wonderful folks from Toronto. A winning combination that made for a special night!,” said Edeh.
The event Chair Lynn Beauregard and Co-Chair Shaenie Colterjohn, who both lived in Africa as children, were delighted with the success of this year’s event and the overwhelming support for CODE.
“Having experienced the challenges that these countries face firsthand, Shaenie and I share the fundamental belief that positive and sustainable change in Africa can only be achieved through education, starting with literacy,” said Beauregard, who is also Vice-Chair of the CODE Board of Directors. “The Read Africa Ball is about gathering great friends for a great cause, and increasing CODE's visibility and awareness, and that was definitely achieved with this second edition.”
The funds raised through the Read Africa Ball will go towards CODE’s literacy programs in ten African countries to help empower children so they can pursue their education and lead healthy, productive lives.
CODE wishes to thank everyone who attended for their support as well as the sponsors and the the volunteers who contributed to putting together such a successful event.
