Awesome Arts Program
March 23, 2011
Soon, CODE will be partnering with WIAM - a local charitable organization whose mandate is to raise awareness about global justice and environmental sustainability through arts programming. The program is called the Awesome Arts Program and it brings art-oriented global issue workshops to the youth of Lowertown, Ottawa. A workshop will be held on March 23 on the importance of literacy. Please check out the WIAM website for more details!
WIAM will be working with three different age groups and providing workshops in a variety of arts from slam poetry, theatre, videos, hip hop dance and more. With the 9-11 year olds, they are running a program of fun, educational global issue sessions where the kids learn about an area of the world, a global issue and an organization that is working towards a solution.
The second half of each session involves making arts and crafts. At the end of the program they will be selling the arts and crafts. Half of the proceeds raised will go to Awesome Arts Program's partner organizations and the other half will go to the Lowertown children's after-school program.
